Since 2023, Sliced Up Press have offered a grant to encourage horror writing from queer authors & poets.
There are no set requirements for what you can & can’t use the grant for, other than AI-related writing tools which are not encouraged (see FAQs below for more).
It’s an international grant, offering a one-off payment of $100 (or local equivalent) to help you grow your writing career, whether that means putting it towards a professional membership, taking a course, buying books, writing software or whatever else you might need to develop your writing journey.
Applications are welcome from all members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community aged 16+, as long as they can demonstrate a reasonable commitment to writing horror in any form, whether that’s fiction, non-fiction, poetry, screenplays, videogame scripts or anything similar.
Applications are now CLOSED until 2026.
The previous application period ended on 30th June 2024. No applications were offered in 2025 due to personal circumstances.
We will only be able to select one recipient from all entrants, though we hope to expand the grant scheme to include more recipients in future.
After the application period ends, one grant recipient will be selected by Sliced Up Press’ grant committee and notified no later than (date TBC once applications re-open). You will only be contacted if your application is successful. We reserve the right to announce the grant recipient on our social media, though we will make an exception to this where safety is a concern.
FAQs
Can I apply again if I’m unsuccessful?
We ask that individuals apply only once for the grant each year. Unsuccessful applicants for the grant are welcome to reapply in the following year.
Can I apply if I am not a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community?
It should go without saying, but no! There are plenty of writing grant schemes out there, the aim of this scheme is to encourage under-represented writers.
Can I use the grant towards the purchase/use of AI, LLM or any other machine learning-related writing software?
We don’t believe that AI has a place in the creative industries, so we will not look to offer the grant if the intended use relates to any of the above.
